Is Animation Really That Disposable? (Blog # 48)

FAST FACTS

. Many remember those classic cartoons of Popeye or even Bugs Bunny and the impact they held, even up to this day, getting reboot after reboot and even films, still to this day. Many other animated shorts were trashed as time went on and were forgotten as may say that, animated films are easily disposable but cheap animation is a thing anyone would be interested in, no matter what. From films, to short cartoons or web animations, cheap animations have always been around.
To compare Hanna-Barbara to Walt Disney, Disney's plan was to made timeless classics that could last and even with his shorts, they are still memorable and watchable. While on the other hand, Hanna-Barbara had to work on the very edge with his animations in fear of financial troubles. Even with his iconic The Flinstones or The Jetsons, Hanna-Barbara isn't classic but more of a cult status.
Throughout the years, animation has been reduced and even with the decision of bringing cartoons from theaters to the small screen, was because of money and costs. This is why there isn't a whole lot of good content or high quality animation, because of costs and a large want of them, very quickly. This is why many are hoping for those to make animation because it's an art form and not to make it, just to make it.

SLOW RESPONSE

. Seeing exactly how animation is treated, just drops down into the deepest pits of my stomach. Seeing how animation could be easily disposable honestly hurts seeing how an art form could just be mass produced with little to no care about the end product. It's not right to define what are classics and what aren't either, to myself, Hanna-Barbara is one of my favorite animators as I grew up on a lot of his cartoons/older cartoons from a young age. I instantly recognize his style and I know what work he's done. But, budget does not define if an animation is good or not as well.

  1. "-budget does not define if an animation is good or not-". Food Fight came to mind immediately. $65,000,000 and look at what it is. It is an abomination that humanity will never forgive itself for conjuring. Ultron would either immediately kill humanity or kill himself after learning about Food Fight. The latter seems more likely.

  2. I agree with Lucas. Budget doesn't mean much. What matters is how that limited (or excessive) budget is used
