Use all the References (Blog # 20)

What's the Sum?

. Usually while animating a scene of scenes, one would use references for types of action and motion. Such as using comic books and movies, but recording yourself or other's seem to be the best in results. Many would think that using a reference is cheating, it's a complete myth. Using references are an essential thing to use in the animation industry as they are helpful to get fluid motion and exactly, what you want.
There are several photography books that are useful to an animator with help in the walk cycle or a run cycle or any type of cycle.
Many animators would look past comic books as a source of reference for poses, although, it's one of best ways as it helps in understanding dynamic poses of exaggeration and how to display motion in a still image. Learning about line action and and dynamics, comic books are a huge aid for animators.
When looking at material such as movies and comic books, don't just stare and look, study and analyze on what yourself could do to bring what that artist did, to your own work.

The Sum

. I found this article to be really helpful in my opinion, it stated good tips and facts about finding and locating references. Comic books, I never even thought of using them for posing reference and they have some great poses to use.
Myself, I'm still trying to get myself to understand that using references are not cheating, I guess it's just an old habit.
