. As we all know, fear comes from the brain and it appears that at a younger age, we are more prone to spot fear and danger then regular everyday things, like a flower. As most fears are, they are things that are a danger to us human beings and for our horror movie monsters from Universal Studios or even our Creepy Pastas, they all derive from something animal-like. Examples being Hannibal Lector and his love for human flesh, Dracula for his own thirst for blood and even The Wolf Man, for his appearance of a rabid wolf.
Although, studies have shown that horror films don't actually activate fear receptors in our brain. They actually activate our Visual Cortex, for our visual input. The Insular Cortex, for our self awareness, The Thalamus and The Dorsal Medial Prefrontal Cortex, the planning section of the brain.
So, our brain isn't really scared but in a way, planning.
What horror really does, is pull our self interest using tension, relevance(either universal, cultural, subgroup or personal) and unrealism.
Horror = "The Uncanny"
And horror is said to come from our deepest subconscious of our fears. Like the words, "shadows" or "mother"
All in all, we could all like horror movies because the people that do die on screen, deserve it.
THE HORROR
.This video/article was really interesting as it combined the sciences and theories of different intellects together and made a great analysis of what horror truly is. I like the explanation of what the brain does when actually watching a horror movie, I found that partially interesting to find out about and now, I view horror movies more highly as it is more then just scares as it makes our brains go in a haze.
I like how you briefly yet completely covered the article assigned to us. I must say though, I found that your background made this blog entry a little difficult to read. I might suggest taking a look at it again :) The background is super cute though!
