Games are the New Movies, Who Knew? (Blog #2)

The Facts

Being the year 2014, many would have expected flying cars and robotic minions that would do our homework for us but, this is obviously not true. Though pertaining to film making and the entertainment industry in general, we have evolved to more complex techniques that catch the eye of viewers, which is us. Movies have been evolving for more than a century and while on the other side, video games have been only doing that for four decades. Even with such little time, companies and developers are starting to implicate film making strategies into their games, like The Order 1886, which is soon to be released.

Depth of field and even lens glares are being added into games to give it a more "movie" feeling which, is working. Video Games in the modern age are starting to be fleshed out as complete story lines and could be made into movies themselves. Lev Kuleshov's technique of the "cutaway" is a great example as in the video given, a director is able to manipulate with the audiences mind and show that lighting could change a mood or give off a type of style.

Now Let Me Tell You-

This article makes perfect sense on how video games DO deserve more recognition of being a full source of entertainment and DO give of complex story lines that feel like a motion picture. Kuleshov's "cutaway" technique is also a very good technique and way of giving off an artists aesthetic and a way to give mood. Thumbs up from me.

Over all, video games have come a long way in a short time and they're not leaving anytime soon people.
